“My Love Affair with Zambia” is a tale about Sandy’s life as a young newlywed in Zambia in the 1970’s and revisiting the country 45 years later.  It’s about her remarkable friendship with the powerful Wina family when she worked for Arthur Wina, a freedom fighter for Independence.
It’s also about the launch of her Dignity Zambia charity in Australia and formation of a plan to build the Arthur Wina Memorial Hospital in a place with  no power, no running water and no roads. This initiative has saved the lives of so many birthing mothers and babies and not one mother has been lost to date, with over 3,000 babies safely born.

Sandy Clark, a local author originally from South Australia, has been living in Airlie Beach since 2019.   She is a Freelance Journalist, Speaker and a Volunteer who has supported and fundraised for vulnerable people since volunteering in Adelaide for Global Teen Challenge in the mid 1990’s.  Teen Challenge, founded in USA in 1960, provides rehabilitation services to those struggling with addiction. It was founded by Reverend David Wilkerson, author of world bestseller "The Cross and the Switchblade”.

She recently spent thirteen months fundraising for Tiny Homes Project, in our local community, for local not-for-profit charity Whitsunday Housing Co. Limited.  She gathered together a team of volunteers and raised funds through corporate donations, sponsorships, grants, events, auctions, raffles and aligning with major local events, to build four tiny homes for homeless women 55 years and over.  The charity is ready to go and awaiting WRC development approval to commence the build.

Sandy is promoting the sale of her first book, a Memoir, “My Love Affair with Zambia” during Whitsunday Writers Festival 2024. This book was launched at Government House in Zambia in 2015 by her friend of 45 years, the Hon Inonge Wina, the first female Vice President of Zambia.  Limited copies of the book are available. Production of the book was through crowdfunding and 1,200 copies were sold and the entire funds contributed to the build of a maternity hospital in one of the most impoverished villages in the world, Nalolo, the home of the Vice President and her late husband and Sandy’s boss, Hon Arthur Wina.  Her second book, also a Memoir, “Anyone Can Become a Princess” will be available to locals early in 2025.
